Man United technical director confirms transfer rumour amid Declan Rice links

Manchester United technical director Darren Fletcher has once again opened up rumours of a move for Declan Rice following reports the West Ham player was asking England colleagues about life at Old Trafford.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team are interested in a move for Rice this summer with the Hammers midfielder 'interested in joining Manchester United.'

Rice's interest in the move was put down to information received that he was questioning United players about the club and in particular asking Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw about aspects of life at the club.

Further reports from the MEN have now effectively collaborated that story with Manchester United technical director Darren Fletcher quoted in a fans' forum on April 16.

Football director John Murtough and technical director Fletcher were the Manchester United representatives at the meeting and the minutes recorded Fletcher's comments on the report:

"Darren noted that they had heard that from players going away with England [and] other national teams that people have started to ask questions about Manchester United again."

West Ham's stance on Rice remains unchanged with football.london understanding that the Hammers have never received a bid for Rice and are not open to one.

David Moyes has been clear where he stands on Rice's future shooting down suggestions of Rice being a £100 million footballer, in his eyes that figure is way too low for his star midfielder.

Speaking in March Moyes said: "For me, I have watched the prices of some players who have gone to clubs recently and they could not lace Declan Rice’s boots.

"I don’t agree with the owners that Declan Rice is a £100million footballer...far, far more than £100million.

"Declan is under contract first and foremost, so he can’t go anywhere no matter what and I keep saying and I hope people know that when I say something I mean it. We’ve not had an offer for Declan Rice and I hope we don’t get one."

Rice has not been in action for West Ham since the last international break after picking up a knee injury whilst with England.

In his absence, West Ham have won two and lost two and now sit three points outside the Champions League spots with five games to play.

The midfielder has been spotted back in training and his return will be welcomed by Moyes as he aims to get the Hammers European push back on track starting with a tricky away trip to Burnley on Monday night.
