Manchester United target Raphael Varane breaks silence on Real Madrid future

Manchester United target Raphael Varane insists his 'future is clear' as he approaches the final year in his current contract with Real Madrid.

United appear to have a free run to sign the French defender this summer after Real president Florentino Perez all but confirmed the club are prepared to sell him.

Varane, 27, is approaching the final year of his Madrid contract and Perez told El Larguero ' some players will have to be sold' and 'if someone does not want to be [at Real Madrid], then they leave'.

Now the French defender has addressed the speculation himself and insisted he is fully committed to the team ahead of their Champions League semi-final with Chelsea.

"My future is clear, I am focused on the end of the season," he said in his pre-match press conference. "We are in an intense moment and all our focus is on the matches we have ahead.

"The message to the fans is that I am 100 per cent committed to the team. We have challenges that encourage us a lot. I am focused on giving everything on the field."

Sources close to Varane say some clubs are only prepared to wait until next year to sign the Frenchman without having to pay a fee but Perez is so desperate to prevent that from happening he is willing to sanction Varane's sale this summer.

The Manchester Evening News revealed last month Madrid are prepared to sell Varane to United, long-time admirers, this summer in order to obtain a fee. Varane is valued at around £60m.

Real promised the club captaincy to Varane with their contract offer but the centre-back is open to leaving as he believes there is a disparity between his salary offer and what his best-paid teammates are earning.
