Manchester United have identified Juventus star Douglas Costa as an alternative to signing Jadon Sancho this summer - according to reports.
Sancho remains a priority target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite Borussia Dortmund's insistence their star forward will not be sold at any price.
If the 20-year-old does prove to be unattainable, Sky Sports claim United could make a move for Costa who has been closely followed by their recruitment team in recent weeks.
The 29-year-old has started just seven games in the Serie A this season, scoring one and assisting four.
MEN Sport understood Costa was identified by former United boss Jose Mourinho as a possible option to bolster his attacking options back in 2018. Sir Alex Ferguson had attempted to sign the Brazilian as a teenager during his time with Gremio almost 10 years prior.
Costa does not fit the profile of player Solskjaer is looking to sign this summer and is not a priority target. Bayern winger Kingsley Coman and Schalke star Rabbi Matondo are two alternatives lined up by United if they cannot sign Sancho.
Elsewhere, reports claim United have cooled their interest in Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.
Grealish helped the Midlands side avoid relegation from the Premier League on the final day of the season but is widely expected to depart this summer.
The England hopeful is one of the players on United's shortlist this summer but The Athletic claim a deal for the playmaker is not being discussed.
Furthermore, the report adds that signing both Sancho and Grealish this summer is "unlikely".
