The Manchester United Supporters Trust has urged the club to "get the next appointment right" following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Solskjaer was sacked by United earlier today following yesterday's dismal 4-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road, which inflicted a fifth defeat in seven Premier League games on the Reds, leaving them 12 points behind current table-toppers Chelsea.
United had already decided that a change in management was required, but the defeat at Vicarage Road meant that the club felt they had to speed up the process and, ultimately, relieve Solskjaer of his duties.
The club has placed Michael Carrick in temporary charge until an interim manager is appointed until the end of the season. A permanent manager will be installed next summer ahead of the 2022/23 season getting under way.
Following the confirmation of Solskjaer's Old Trafford exit, the MUST has placed on record its appreciation for Solskjaer's hard work, but has urged the club's hierarchy to get it bang on the money as far as their next appointment is concerned.
The statement read : "We send our heartfelt thanks to Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his tireless efforts over the past three years.
"However difficult this season has been, he has embodied the true spirit of the club, restoring its pride and reminding us that there is nothing on earth like being a Red. We wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavours.
"Yet again pressure is on the Manchester United owners and board. United’s might once bridged both footballing and commercial realms. Recent years have shown us, however, that no amount of experience with the latter can compensate for lack of it with the former.
"On behalf of the tens of thousands of our members and in unison with the United fans around the world, we implore the owners and board to prioritise football decisions above all else.
"You need to get the next appointment right, to back and support that new manager and provide whatever they need to succeed. Our club should be winning titles."
