Manchester United supporters' group planning protest against Glazers amid takeover frustration

Manchester United supporters' group The 1958 has announced plans to protest against the Glazers amid ongoing frustration regarding a prospective takeover of the club.

In an announcement made on Twitter late on Sunday night, the group detailed plans to protest outside the club's megastore on Tuesday June 27, coinciding with the release of next season's kit.

The protests come as the takeover process drags into its eighth month, with little recent progress. Both Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are still awaiting a decision on exclusivity.

A tweet from the 1958 Twitter account read: "DON’T FEED GLAZER GREED! The 1958 will have a presence at the megastore on Tuesday. A legal protest from 9:45am. Be there! Bring your anti Glazer flags and banners! Be loud, be visual. We don’t stop until they sell our club! #GlazersOut #BoycottAdidas".

Sheikh Jassim and Ratcliffe remain the two frontrunners to purchase the club, but updates on the process have all come via the bidders or media, with no update from the board since they announced plans to explore 'strategic alternatives' in November.

Slow decision-making has dragged the process out into the summer transfer window, with the club's ownership situation in limbo as Premier League rivals get to work on strengthening their squads. Multiple reports have suggested both Erik ten Hag and other staff inside Old Trafford are growing angry at the delays.

Former Reds defender Gary Neville slammed the Glazers last week, telling BBC Radio 5 Live: “I think it’s embarrassing. But it’s what they have done, drag everything out. It’s always in their best interests and not in the best interests of the football club.”

United are planning to release their 2023/24 home shirt on Tuesday after hinting at the date on their social media channels earlier this month.
