Manchester United suffer Ousmane Dembele transfer hammer blow as winger fights for Barcelona future

Manchester United's hopes of sealing a deadline day deal for Ousmane Dembele have been hit with a hammer blow as it's reported he's rejected a transfer.

The Premier League giants have spent all summer pursuing Jadon Sancho but wouldn't meet Borussia Dortmund's €120million asking price.

That deal is understood to be dead in the water while another target, Douglas Costa, is set to leave Juventus for a return to Bayern Munich.

United had therefore turned to Dembele as they looked to sign the French talent on loan from Barcelona.

Nou Camp boss Ronald Koeman didn't rule out an exit saying: "At the moment he's a Barcelona player. There is one day left for incomings and outgoings.

"We'll see."

Now though RMC Sport is reporting that Dembele has decided to stay and fight for his place at Barça, rejecting the idea of moving to Manchester United.

The 23-year-old missed much of last season with injury and is determined to prove his worth to the club.

That could have a knock-on effect as the Catalan outfit were keen to sign Memphis Depay from Lyon.

A contract has been agreed in principle but Barça need to free up room in the budget for his transfer fee.

OL sporting director Juninho said: "We have already explained that Memphis is his last year of contract.

"He’s already agreed with Barça, we don’t hide that at all.

"Maybe he’ll go to Barcelona but nothing is certain.

"Until the window closes he’s the player most likely to leave. If he stays then I hope he’ll help us to get back to winning matches."

That deal has now been placed in doubt though, with Barcelona not likely to offload Dembele.
