Manchester United suffer Marcus Rashford blow as squad leaves for Liverpool FC fixture

Marcus Rashford has not travelled with the Manchester United squad to Liverpool for their Premier League fixture today.

The MEN revealed on Saturday night that arrived at The Lowry Hotel and eyewitnesses have told the MEN Rashford was not present when the team coach set off on Sunday afternoon.

Rashford, 22, sustained a back injury in the second-half of United's 1-0 FA Cup third round replay win over Wolves on Wednesday. The England international came off the bench with the game goalless but was forced off following a collision with the Wolves wing-back Matt Doherty.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggested on Friday Rashford would not be available for the Liverpool game and there are concerns the United talisman could be out for weeks.

"I can't tell you now," Solskjaer said. "As I said with Harry [Maguire] a few weeks ago, of course we're going to give him the absolute amount of time to find out. We'll do some more checks and treatment with him today, yesterday, of course, was just a recovery day and some treatment for him. I've not see him this morning.

"I'm not going to hold my breath. I would probably think he wouldn't be ready but let's see. it's 48 hours [away], more than that, so let's see."

Rashford is United's highest scorer with 19 goals this term and registered in their 1-1 draw with Liverpool in October. United are the only team to have taken a point off Liverpool in the Premier League.

United stayed at The Lowry rather than The Titanic Hotel in Liverpool, though it is understood that was unrelated to Rashford's injury and the stay was planned weeks ago.

Security at Anfield sent a sniffer dog to The Lowry to inspect the United team coach; a routine measure conducted before visiting teams are bussed into Liverpool's stadium.
