Manchester United suffer major Paul Pogba injury blow ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea clashes

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is facing a spell on the sidelines after injuring his thigh while on international duty with France.

The 28-year-old is currently serving a three-match ban for United after picking up a straight red card against Liverpool last month, with two games served so far.

However, now, Pogba is set to be sidelined until the turn of the year through injury, meaning he is likely to miss matches against both Arsenal and Chelsea.

Man United take on the Blues at Stamford Bridge at the end of this month, before hosting Arsenal a few days later in the Premier League.

Pogba will now be assessed by the Man United medical staff to determine the extent of the thigh problem, according to a report from Sky Sports on Tuesday afternoon.

The French Football Federation said the midfielder was the "victim of an injury to the quadriceps of the right thigh".

A statement issued by Man United on Tuesday said: "Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has withdrawn from the France squad due to an injury sustained in training on Monday.

"The 28-year-old had joined up with his international team-mates as Les Bleus prepare for important World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Finland.

"Unfortunately, Paul suffered a right thigh injury while taking part in a training session on Monday.

"The French Football Federation has confirmed that Pogba will miss both of the country's upcoming games in this November international break."

United are already missing Raphael Varane after the Frenchman suffered an injury in last month's draw with Atalanta in the Champions League and the former Real Madrid defender faces a race against time to be fit enough to play both Arsenal and Chelsea.

The London duo will be hoping they can take advantage of United's injury problems, coupled with the bad run of form they are currently going through.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under immense pressure at Old Trafford following United's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend, a result that came less than two weeks after they were thumped 5-0 at home to rivals Liverpool.

Reports state that United plan to stick with Solskjaer, but the Norwegian is undoubtedly under pressure in his role in the dugout.
