Manchester United suffer injury scare ahead of Premier League opener against Chelsea

Chelsea may have just had a boost ahead of the first Premier League game of the season.

The Blues travel to Old Trafford to take on top six rivals Manchester United on Sunday August 11th, with both teams preparations ahead of the new campaign well underway.

But the Red Devils now could be without an important player for the game, as defender Victor Lindelof was forced from the field with a thigh strain in the club's pre-season game against Serie A side Inter Milan on Saturday afternoon.

The Sweden international was injured off the ball, and walked straight down the tunnel after being replaced by Phil Jones in the centre on Man Utd's defence.

Lindelof will be a big loss for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as he has been one of the team's more consistent performers since joining from Benfica in the summer of 2017. The 25-year-old made 40 appearances in all competitions last season, including the two Premier League stalemates against the Blues.

When quizzed about the fitness of the defender at full time, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer couldn't give a timescale for the injury layoff.

"We don’t know yet but [Lindelof and Chong] should be OK," he told MUTV .

“Victor, we’ll have to assess him tomorrow."

Chelsea have four pre-season matches lined up before the trip to Old Trafford, starting with a game against Barcelona at the Saitama Stadium on Tuesday.
