Manchester United suffer injury scare ahead of International Champions Cup clash against Spurs

Tottenham could have received a boost ahead of their meeting with Manchester United on Thursday (July 25th).

Spurs face Manchester United in the International Champions Cup in the Hongkou Stadium in Shanghai, and while the game won't take on as much significance as a Premier League encounter, Tottenham will be looking for the chance to get one over on one of their top six rivals ahead of the start of the new campaign.

Now, the Red Devils now could be without an important player for the game, as defender Victor Lindelof was forced from the field with a thigh strain in the club's pre-season game against Serie A side Inter Milan on Saturday afternoon.

The Sweden international was injured off the ball, and walked straight down the tunnel after being replaced by Phil Jones in the centre on Man Utd's defence.

Lindelof will be a big loss for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as he has been one of the team's more consistent performers since joining from Benfica in the summer of 2017. The 25-year-old made 40 appearances in all competitions last season, including the two Premier League stalemates against the Blues.

When quizzed about the fitness of the defender at full time, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer couldn't give a timescale for the injury layoff.

"We don’t know yet but [Lindelof and Chong] should be OK," he told MUTV .

“Victor, we’ll have to assess him tomorrow."

However, before attention can turn to the Manchester United game, Spurs have a match against Italian Champions Juventus to contend with. The Lilywhites take on the Old Lady on Sunday afternoon, with the kick off at 12:30pm UK time.
