Manchester United suffer Erling Haaland 'setback' as pundit makes bold John McGinn claim

Welcome to the United On My Mind daily-round up, where we take a look at some of the best stories concerning Manchester United which you might have missed.

Even during an international break, there's plenty of news to get stuck into, with rumours about Erling Haaland's future no doubt of interest to United fans.

Meanwhile, it wouldn't be a daily round-up without some talk of United's midfield problems and today is no different...

Dortmund push to keep Haaland

It’s no surprise that Borussia Dortmund striker Haaland is attracting a lot of attention from across Europe.

United have been linked with the hotshot forward in recent times, though they'll face plenty of competition if they are to sign the youngster.

Not only are some of the biggest clubs in Europe linked with the 21-year-old, German outlet Sportbild now report that Haaland's current club Dortmund are desperate to keep hold of him. Dortmund's board are preparing a bumper contract offer that they hope will convince him to stay at the club.

This story will no doubt rumble on over the coming months, but United have definitely got their work cut out if they're to sign the Norway international.

McGinn the answer for United?

Despite securing the signings of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, United fans are still bemoaning the club's inability to sign a world-class central midfielder.

Aston Villa’s John McGinn has previously been linked to the club, and former Villa man Gabriel Agbonlahor has made some bold claims about United's midfield.

“I say it every time I see him play, [Scott] McTominay is the better version of Fred, definitely. Every time Fred gets the ball he gives it away - sloppy passes when they’re trying to build attacks,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT .

“I don’t see why he [Fred] is in that Manchester United team. I’d rather [Jesse] Lingard all day or give Donny van de Beek a chance. There’s a lot of central midfielders that walk into that midfield... John McGinn walks into that midfield.”

United continue to be linked with a move for Declan Rice, though McGinn could offer a much cheaper alternative if West Ham continue to demand £100 million for Rice.

Links to Inter Milan midfielder links continue

With the futures of both Paul Pogba and Van de Beek up in the air, United may well be in the market for more than one midfielder.

It was recently reported that Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic was being monitored by United, and the rumour appears to be picking up pace with Calciomercato now claiming United are keeping tabs on the Croatia international.

Brozovic has less than one year remaining on his current deal and he would represent a solid bit of business if United were able to sign him on a free transfer next summer.
