Manchester United 'step up interest' in Timo Werner and more transfer rumours

Manchester United remain interested in signing a new striker and reports suggest Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will turn his attention to the Bundesliga.

Many names have been linked with a switch to Old Trafford including Mario Mandzukic and Edinson Cavani while a move for Bournemouth forward Callum Wilson has also been mooted.

Nevertheless, the Express report that Solskjaer has stepped up his interest in RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

The German has been constantly linked with a move to the Premier League after emerging as one of the Bundesliga's top forwards.

Scoring 68 times in 124 appearances for the German side, the 23-year-old is reportedly attracting interest from Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool.

Despite recently signing a new contract with the club, Werner is seen as a long-term solution for United's striking woes but Leipzig will be unwilling to lose their star player in January.

The report claims United may have to wait until next summer to finalise any deal.

Elsewhere, United are also lining up a move for Celtic defender - Kristoffer Ajer - according to reports.

90min state the centre-back is on Solskjaer's shortlist as well as fellow Norwegian Erling Haaland.

They claim the Reds have scouted Ajer for a considerable amount of time and would be willing to bring him to Old Trafford.

The 21-year-old has been ever present since joining the Hoops and is capable of playing in defence or midfield.
