Manchester United starting XI suggests plan to repeat Leeds United demolition job

Manchester United are facing Leeds United in their first Premier League game of the 2021/22 season. With this being the first Roses derby in front of fans since 2004, over 17 years ago, the game should be an exciting one.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer boasting an unbeaten record against Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa, United fans should be coming into this game with confidence after their previous two results against the Yorkshire club.

The incredible result of 6-2 from December 2020 will still be fresh in the memories of both sets of fans with United fans hoping to relive that day once again when they play host to Leeds.

Today's starting XI will hopefully do as well as last season's lineup in this same fixture.

The lineup was to be expected with new boys Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane not playing at all in pre-season, and Varane still not being announced by the club or registered in the Premier League.

The setup of Paul Pogba playing on the left shouldn't come as a surprise with the current injury to Marcus Rashford, as well as Pogba playing there predominantly throughout last season with Fred and Scott McTominay playing behind in midfield.

Mason Greenwood will start the season as the lone striker with Daniel James on the right, showcasing Solskjaer's supposed tactic of beating Leeds on the counter.

Overall, the starting XI was to be expected with the lack of pre-season for the new signings, the injury to Rashford, the extended break for Edinson Cavani, and Anthony Martial still recovering from an injury.

The bench will be one to look out for with Sancho appearing as a substitute. Hopefully, the new United star will be able to make an appearance.
