Manchester United stars dominate Alan Shearer's list of top 10 Premier League strikers

Former Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers striker Alan Shearer has named his top 10 strikers of Premier League history, with the standings dominated by Manchester United icons.

The Premier League's all-time leading scorer made his choices on the BBC's Match of the Day Top 10 podcast, alongside fellow pundit Ian Wright and host Gary Lineker.

After ranking the top captains of the Premier League last week, where United legend Roy Keane came second behind ex-Chelsea captain John Terry, the attention turned towards goalscorers.

United were once again included, with four of the top 10 enjoying the prime years of their career in English football at Old Trafford - although their highest selection was ranked fourth.

Andy Cole, who scored 93 Premier League goals for United, was ranked tenth in the list, behind current Tottenham star Harry Kane and former Liverpool ace Luis Suarez.

At seventh, Cristiano Ronaldo entered the running and Shearer admitted he would have been much higher if the rankings reflected a player's entire career, rather than just their time in English football.

“He would be out on his own, his stats, his ability are ridiculous, but his last two seasons in the Premier League were about 48/49 goals, combined from the two seasons.”

Shearer placed form Chelsea man Didier Drogba at sixth, followed by the third United representative in the form of Ruud van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney, who is the highest United player in the list.

Arsenal's all-time leading goalscorer Thierry Henry was ranked third, with Manchester City icon Sergio Aguero coming in at second and Shearer naming himself as number one.
