Manchester United starlet Mason Greenwood provides Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with timely reminder of his class

Mason Greenwood gave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a reminder of his star quality on Saturday afternoon as he scored a match-winning brace in Manchester United's under-18s' win away to Derby County.

Neil Ryan's youngsters were trailing to Morgan Whittaker's early strike at half-time but Greenwood turned the game on its head after the break.

The 17-year-old equalised with a bullet header from right-back Iestyn Hughes' cross before producing a piece of individual brilliance to give put United in front.

Collecting the ball on the left wing, Greenwood squared up one of Derby's defenders before producing several step-overs, cutting inside and curling a sumptuous right-footed strike into the far corner.

United have high hopes for Greenwood, who has been prolific at youth level this season and made his senior debut as a late substitute in United's win against Paris Saint-Germain in March.

The teenager also came off the bench in United's recent games against Arsenal and West Ham.

Greenwood's cameo against the Hammers was his home debut for the senior side and Solskjaer was impressed with the the youngster's performance.

"Mason brought some energy to the crowd, he tried to take people on and I'm very happy with his home debut," the United manager said.

Solskjaer was in the stands when Greenwood made his Old Trafford bow for the under-23s in a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion earlier this month.
