Manchester United star's damning comment about Liverpool game spelt end for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

A Manchester United player reportedly complained he was made to look 's--t' in the defeat to Liverpool last month, a damning comment that showed the dressing room was losing faith in manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Now, almost a month after the defeat to Jurgen Klopp's side, the Manchester club have parted ways with Solskjaer after nearly three years in charge.

The decision came after United suffered a dismal 4-1 defeat to Watford on Saturday afternoon, but pressure had been mounting for weeks.

Solskjaer was evidently struggling to lead his side through a turbulent period and a poor run of form, that included the 5-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford last month.

The Norwegian's authority had been eroding and the relationship with some of the players' camps was reportedly becoming strained.

According to the Manchester Evening News , Pogba's cousin, who is Jesse Lingard's representative, scolded Solskjaer for fielding an unchanged side in the dismantling by Liverpool.

Before the defeat to the Reds, United had just about scraped past Atalanta 3-2 in the Champions League, a late winner from Cristiano Ronaldo papered over the cracks.

In the aftermath of the defeat to Liverpool, the MEN also claims another player complained after he was made to look 's--t' due to the number of times he was covering for a team-mate.

Another player who featured against Liverpool was also spotted in a restaurant in Manchester just hours after the embarrassment, according to an eyewitness: "He was in there like nothing had happened."

According to The Telegraph , Ed Woodward was telling friends before the defeat to Leicester in October that they remained 'firmly behind Solskjaer'.

However, the mood changed after the defeat to Liverpool and it worsened a two weeks later when they were beaten at home by rivals Manchester City.

The decision to sit and hope Solskjaer could ride the storm backfired as they were humbled once again on Saturday, this time against a team battling at the bottom end of the table.

Now the club have finally called time on Solskjaer's tenure and first team coach Michael Carrick has been put in charge temporarily while United seek an interim until the end of the season.
