The value of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba could almost halve due to the current coronavirus crisis according to a study conducted by the CIES Football Observatory.
Professional football in England is suspended until April 30 at the earliest due to the ongoing pandemic with Premier League football believed to be months away from returning.
Pogba has been out of action since the end of December when he played 45 minutes during the 4-1 win against Newcastle, requiring surgery to fix an ankle issue.
The Frenchman remains heavily linked with an Old Trafford exit with his contract set to expire next summer.
According to CIES, Pogba's current contract situation, his lack of football, age and career path suggests the midfielder's transfer value could plummet from €65million to just €35million in the next three months if no matches are played before June.
Not only would Pogba's value be affected by the crisis as other players in the United squad would also see their transfer worth decrease.
The study suggests the total value of the Manchester United squad would fall below the €1bn mark, dropping from €1.007bn to €714m, a decline of €293m in the next three months.
Only United's rivals Manchester City (€412m) and Liverpool (€353m) would see a bigger fall in value than the Reds in the Premier League.
In the rest of the world, only Barcelona (€366m), Real Madrid (€350m) and Paris-Saint Germain (€302m) stand to lose more than United if no football is played.
Liverpool would be the only side worth more than €1bn despite the loss due to United slipping under that mark.
