Manchester United have previously been linked with a move for Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may get his chance to sign the utility man this summer.
Last month, the Mail reported that the Red Devils hold an interest Maitland-Niles who spent the second half of the 2020/21 season at West Bromwich Albion under Sam Allardyce.
In addition, it was claimed that Everton had also shown an interest - prior to Carlo Ancelotti's departure - although both clubs viewed him as a right-back which could be an issue given his preference to operate in his natural central midfield position.
With that said, the England international could be put up for sale by Arsenal ahead of what is expected to be a busy summer in north London.
Speaking about his future to the Telegraph, Maitland-Niles confirmed that he would be prepared to part company with his boyhood club if he doesn't figure into Mikel Arteta's plans for next season.
"I’ve heard they want to make some space [in the squad] and some money so I’m not sure," he said. "I want a decision. I want some clarity. And then hopefully I can get to work with whoever I need to get to work with.
"Whether that is finding a new club or whether that is carrying on with my training.
"I would like some kind of indication of what is happening.
"Where they [Arsenal] see me. If it works out it works out, if it doesn’t then kiss Arsenal goodbye. It’s been a long journey but a proud one at that."
Of course, it remains to be seen what decision Arsenal make and if Man United are even still interested in Maitland-Niles as they have recently been linked with an alternative in Kieran Trippier.
But if Maitland-Niles does end up making the shock move to Old Trafford he would become teammates with Paul Pogba.
And the Frenchman has already delivered his verdict on his potential future teammate.
Towards the end of the 2017/18 season, when the Gunners were beaten 2-1 by Man United, Maitland-Niles and Pogba embraced at the full-time whistle.
What was actually said has since been revealed by the former.
"He said to me that I need to keep working hard," Maitland-Niles told Sky Sports following the match. "He enjoyed playing against me and that was it really.
"He just told me to keep going and gave me some words of advice which was nice."
