Mathias Pogba is adamant that his brother, Manchester United star Paul Pogba, could still move to Real Madrid despite the emergence of Federico Valverde.
After arriving at Madrid as a teenager and spending time on loan in the country's second division, Valverde has emerged as a key player for Zinedine Zidane this season.
The 21-year-old made headlines this week after being sent off in the Spanish Super Cup final after he denied Atletico Madrid what would have been a clear chance on goal towards the end of extra-time.
Madrid went on to win the final on penalties and Valderde was awarded the man of the match award.
The rise of the combative Uruguayan has led to claims that Madrid no longer need to sign Pogba, but the Frenchman's brother believes that Valverde can't compete with him.
Mathias told Spanish TV channel El Chiringuito: “No, he can help him, but he can’t compete with him. I don’t think so. Can the two play together? Yes.”
Pogba is currently injured and United are adamant he will not be leaving the club in the January transfer window. The 26-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move away for months and expressed a desire for a new challenge last summer.
Real Madrid are long-term admirers of the France World Cup winner while he is also said to be on the radar of former club Juventus.
Pogba has been limited to just eight appearances for United this season after a series of ankle injuries have kept him on the sidelines and he is expected to be out for at least another couple of weeks.
