Manchester United star Marcus Rashford explains why he is so motivated to help those in need

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has admitted that he has always been motivated to help those most in need.

The England international, who has scored three goals this season since returning from a lengthy injury lay-off in October, is renowned for going the extra mile off the pitch to help those less fortunate than himself and others.

After being awarded an MBE in October last year, the United academy graduate played an integral role in ensuring young children got free school meals earlier this year, after challenging the government.

Furthermore, Rashford also earned himself an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Manchester in October, highlighting how motivated and driven he is to succeed away from the football pitch.

With Christmas - a time for giving - just around the corner, Rashford has admitted that he was driven to help other people from a very young age, so much so that he even used to give food to homeless people when on his way to training at the age of just seven-years-old.

"I grew up in these places," Rashford told Premier League Productions, as quoted by United's club website. "For example, when I went to training, when I was maybe seven, on the way, I'd meet so many homeless people.

"I used to give them a packet of crisps or whatever I had in my packed lunch for training. I'd just give them that. I know where help is needed and I'm showing people who should already know where help is needed.

"I want to do it the right way. People speak about donations but, eventually, donations will stop. Whereas, if you create a system that can help and support these children through a certain part of their lives, the early stages of their lives, I think that's more than possible.

"I don't see why we can't do that."
