Manchester United star Jesse Lingard's brilliant gesture to local football team

Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has stayed true to his roots, surprising a local amateur team with full kits and training wear for the new season.

The midfielder, who featured during United 's 4-0 win over Chelsea at the weekend, took a trip to a local Manchester football team - Whalley Range AFC.

Founded in 1900, the Chorlton team compete in the Lancashire & Cheshire Amateur Football League and were shocked to see the England international turn up at their training session.

Lingard arrived with brand new kits, coats and t-shirts for the upcoming season, featuring his logo on the front of the apparel.

The 26-year-old posed for pictures with members of the squad who were delighted with the gesture.

Posting on the club's Twitter page, the message reads: "A small gesture from you is huge for a club like us. Grassroots teams are forever grateful. Thank you once again, the lads were over the moon."

Replying on his page, Lingard said: "Good luck for the new season boys. It was a pleasure."

The midfielder will now turn attentions to securing United's second win of the Premier League season against Wolves on Monday night.
