Manchester United star Harry Maguire gives injury update as he nears England comeback

Harry Maguire remains on the right road to recovery after enjoying another training session on Tuesday.

The Manchester United captain hasn't played since May 9 after picking up an ankle ligament injury in the 3-1 victory over Aston Villa.

It saw Maguire miss the last four games of the Premier League season, restricted him to just a place on the bench in the Europa League final defeat to Villarreal - though it was unlikely he would ever come on in that match - and England's opening game of Euro 2020.

The Three Lions have made an auspicious start to this summer's tournament after they defeated Croatia 1-0 on Sunday thanks to Raheem Sterling's second-half winner.

England looked comfortable defensively in the match but Gareth Southgate will still be hoping to get his first-choice centre-back fit as soon as possible.

The manager has received good news on that front, though, as Maguire completed his sixth successive day of training without any further setbacks on Tuesday and he sounds optimistic about his chances of returning to action.

The 28-year-old tweeted: "Another good session in the bank," accompanied with a smiley, sun and England flag emojis.

Maguire will be hoping to be in contention for England's second group stage game against Great British rivals Scotland on Friday, with the final match against the Czech Republic coming the following Tuesday.

While Maguire is on the way back to action, his United teammate Dean Henderson has had to pull out of the England squad due to a hip injury.

On Monday Henderson could only train in the gym as a result of the ailment and has now left the squad as a result, with Sheffield United's Aaron Ramsdale taking his place.

"I worked so hard to be in this position. I’m devastated to have to withdraw through injury!!" the goalkeeper tweeted, accompanied with an England flag and punch emojis.

"I want to wish my teammates all the best for the up and coming games. BRING IT HOME."
