Manchester United star Dean Henderson sends message to Chris Wilder after Sheff Utd exit

Dean Henderson has posted a heartfelt message to his former manager Chris Wilder as he prepares to leave Sheffield United.

Having progressed through the ranks at Old Trafford, the England goalkeeper enjoyed two memorable seasons under Wilder while on loan at Bramall Lane, returning to Manchester United last summer.

During those two years, Henderson made 82 league appearances and was an ever-present in the Blades' promotion-winning campaign of 2018/19.

Upon the club's return to the Premier League, the 24-year-old was equally instrumental as Wilder's side flirted with European football before settling for an impressive ninth-place finish.

However, things have not gone according to plan this season, with Sheffield United now rock bottom of the table — and staring down the barrel of an almost-certain Championship return.

But as Wilder looks set to depart following initial reports that he has been sacked, his former number one says his achievements at Bramall Lane will stand the test of time.

A graduate of the famous United academy system, Henderson made his Football League debut on loan at Grimsby Town in 2016 — and then continued his development at Shrewsbury the following season.

However, it was during his 24-month stint in Sheffield under Wilder that he really emerged as one of the country's top goalkeepers.

Taking to Twitter to address the news, Henderson wrote: "Thank you for everything you did for me!!

"Don’t ever underestimate what you did for Sheffield United! Can’t wait the see the statue at the lane! Not only a great manager but a great person. Best of luck for the future."
