Manchester United star David de Gea suffers injury blow ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has sustained an injury ahead of Liverpool's trip to Old Trafford on Sunday.

De Gea has been on international duty in the last week and has left the field this evening during Spain's Euro 2020 qualifier with Sweden.

The United shot-stopper has come off due to what looks to be a groin problem, with his status ahead of Sunday likely in doubt as a result.

De Gea was able to walk off the pitch and was replaced by Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The United star was making his first start for Spain boss Robert Moreno after playing second fiddle to Kepa for the most part of this year.

De Gea was in a contract stand-off at United for some time but last month penned a new deal until 2023, with the 28-year-old arguably one of the most consistent performers for the club.

Liverpool are currently eight points clear of Manchester City ahead of the game this weekend at United.

The Red Devils, meanwhile, have endured a rough start to the 2019/20 Premier League campaign thanks to shock defeats against Crystal Palace, West Ham and Newcastle United.

Liverpool currently lead United by 15 points this season, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men way down in 12th after eight matches.
