Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo's class act to support La Palma volcano victims

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has offered his support to the victims of the La Palma volcano eruption by putting a signed Portugal shirt up for bidding.

Over 3,000 buildings have been destroyed and 7,000 people have been forced to leave their homes on the Canary Island, after the Cumbre Vieja volcano erupted back in September.

In a bid to raise some money and support the victims of the disaster, Ronaldo, who scored the winner in United's last Premier League outing against Norwich City just over a week ago, has put a signed Portugal shirt with his name and number on the back up for auction, featuring his signature and a message of solidarity with those who live on the island.

In a message to those impacted, Ronaldo said: "Not even the force of a volcano will be able to with La Palma. All my support for the beautiful island."

The bidding for the striker's shirt will open on Christmas Eve and draw to a close on Thursday, January 6, with all of the money raised heading straight to the victims, a report by Cadena SER claims.

This move is not Ronaldo's first act of genuine kindness. Last year, the former Real Madrid man gave Portuguese hospitals £850,000 at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Cumbre Vieja eruption is the longest La Palma has ever seen, but reports have suggested that the volcano may have stopped erupting at last.
