Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken of his pride after becoming the first professional footballer in history to score 800 competitive goals.
Ronaldo took his tally of senior strikes to 801 with a brace in United's thrilling 3-2 victory over Arsenal at Old Trafford on Thursday evening.
Having got themselves back on level terms shortly before half-time through Bruno Fernandes, United started the second half the stronger of the two sides and got in front when Ronaldo slotted home Marcus Rashford's low cutback.
Arsenal responded almost immediately, with Martin Odegaard, a former team-mate of Ronaldo's at Real Madrid, sweeping home a fine, crisp finish.
However, the night was to belong to Ronaldo, who doubled his tally for the evening with 20 minutes left to play. After Fred was brought down inside the penalty area by Odegaard, Ronaldo lashed home an unstoppable penalty at the Sretford End, ensuring United ran out 3-2 winners.
His first goal of the night took his tally of career strikes to 800, before his match-winning penalty increased his collection to 801, showing exactly why he will have a big part to play under new interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
Having smashed yet another record, the Portuguese star has addressed his latest landmark with an emotional post on social media.
On Twitter, Ronaldo posted: "Very happy to become the first football player to score more than 800 official goals.
"What an amazing and unforgettable run this is becoming. Thank you to all my supporters for always standing by my side.
"801 and still counting!"
His brace against the Gunners took his tally of goals for United to 130, meaning, along with his 71 assists in United colours, he has now directly contributed to more than 200 goals in his two spells at Old Trafford.
He will be hoping to increase his tally even further against Crystal Palace on Sunday, when Rangnick takes charge for the very first time.
