Manchester United talisman Bruno Fernandes has admitted that goalkeeper David de Gea fully deserved his clean sheet following Saturday evening's 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
United — who have now won each of their last two visits to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium — bounced back from last Sunday's 5-0 defeat to Liverpool with a comfortable and convincing victory in north London, thanks to goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford.
Although Spurs were poor and did very little to threaten United, it was the ideal response that United needed after such a dismal performance last weekend.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to switch up his tactical approach, opting to deploy a 3-5-2 that paid dividends, with United recording just their second clean sheet of the season in all competitions.
Although they did not have to work particularly hard for it — with Spurs failing to register a shot on target — the win will have given United a huge lift ahead of next weekend's Manchester derby against City.
With their clean sheet tally for the season now doubled, midfielder Fernandes, who claimed the assist for Ronaldo's opener, has almost dedicated the shut-out to De Gea.
The Spaniard took to social media after the game to upload an image of himself and the caption: "Solid performance."
Fernandes then replied, saying: "You deserve this clean sheet."
De Gea has impressed in goal for United this season, keeping rival Dean Henderson out of the side in both the league and Champions League.
