Manchester United stance on Raul Jimenez transfer reports

Manchester United insist there is 'nothing in' reports they have agreed a move for Wolves striker Raul Jimenez.

Portuguese public service broadcaster RTP claimed Jimenez, 29, was in line to move to United as Wolves had agreed a deal to sign Braga forward Paulinho. However, senior United sources have told the MEN the report was inaccurate and the Jimenez article cannot be found on the RTP sport landing page.

In the five-paragraph story, Jimenez's 'is on his way to Manchester United' is not mentioned until the fourth paragraph.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is believed to be an admirer of Jimenez and the club showed interest in the January transfer window when Marcus Rashford sustained a double stress fracture to his back.

Jimenez is contracted to Wolves until 2023 and United turned to Shanghai Shenhua frontman Odion Ighalo, initially on loan until the end of the season, before it was extended until January 1.

Anthony Martial has excelled as United's number nine this season, scoring 22 goals in 39 starts, Marcus Rashford is capable of playing through the middle and has as many goals while the prolific Mason Greenwood is on 17.

United have earmarked a winger and a forward as priority positions to reinforce their attack, rather than another number nine, amid interest in Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho and Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.

Mexico international Jimenez was among the Jorge Mendes clients who moved to Wolves following their promotion to the Premier League in 2018, originally on loan. Wolves signed Jimenez permanently for a club-record £30million last year.

Jimenez has plundered 26 goals in 53 appearances for Wolves this season.
