Manchester United stance on Julian Alvarez transfer

Manchester United currently have no plans to sign Julian Alvarez despite incessant reports of interest in a move this month.

Alvarez, 21, is one of the stars of South American football after a stellar campaign for River Plate, which has seen him net 18 goals and notch seven assists in just 21 league appearances.

After such an incredible run of form, there is clear European interest in a move for the Argentine forward, but reports linking him with a move to United appear to be agent-led.

MEN Sport understand United have no interest in signing Alvarez this month, with a club source stating 'there is nothing in the reports at all'.

Just this week, Alvarez has been linked with moves to United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Inter and Milan in what appears to be a campaign to drum up interest in the youngster.

The 21-year-old is understood to have a £17million release clause in his current deal at River, which does appear to represent good value for a player with such a formidable scoring record in the top-flight of Argentine football.

Talk of a transfer, however, also appears to be fuelled by the fact that Alvarez has entered the final year of his current deal at River and is believed to want assurances about his future as soon as possible.

The striker, who has been capped five times by Argentina, will be looking to earn a call-up to the World Cup squad at the end of the year and knows his next transfer destination could be pivotal in earning international recognition.

Alvarez was part of the Argentina squad that won the Copa America last year.
