Manchester United stance on Diogo Dalot and Kieran Trippier transfers before deadline

Diogo Dalot is likely to remain a Manchester United player beyond Tuesday's transfer deadline, and thus a deal for Kieran Trippier is unlikely.

United have held an interest in England full-back Trippier throughout this summer's transfer window, but have been unwilling to meet Atletico Madrid's lofty valuation of a player who is 31 and out of contract next summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to get more competition at right-back this season in the United side, but MEN Sport understand that is now likely to be provided by Dalot.

Reports on Saturday suggested an agreement had been met between United and Borussia Dortmund for the Portuguese, with the German giants among those linked with Dalot. But it's understood that isn't the case and Dalot should now stay at Old Trafford.

He spent last season on loan at AC Milan and shone, prompting more interest from the Italian side in another season-long deal. United were more keen on a permanent sale, looking to recoup some of Dalot's value, or else they wanted to keep hold of the 22-year-old.

The players expected to leave United before the deadline are now limited to Amad — with Solskjaer confirming the teenage winger had agreed a loan with an unnamed club — and possibly Jesse Lingard.

Full-backs Brandon Williams and Ethan Laird are among those who have headed out on loan, meaning Dalot and Alex Telles are the main competitors for starting full backs Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw.
