Manchester United stance on coaching staff under Ralf Rangnick

Manchester United anticipate the current coaching staff members will remain at the club as Ralf Rangnick prepares to take over as interim manager.

United confirmed the appointment of Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season before he undertakes a two-year consultancy role.

Club sources have indicated Rangnick could be joined by a handful of staff members but United are not expecting any more imminent outgoings from the coaching department.

Lars Kornetka was described by Rangnick as ' the best video analyst we have in Germany' and joined the German at Lokomotiv Moscow earlier this year. Christian Mockel was appointed as Lokomotiv's head of scouting by Rangnick.

United believe Rangnick's appointment is an opportunity for some coaches to gain experience from the German. Michael Carrick turned 40 earlier this year and only started coaching at senior level in 2018, as did the 35-year-old Kieran McKenna.

Technical director Darren Fletcher, 37, has become more visible on matchdays but the assistant manager Mike Phelan, 59, is a peripheral figure in the dugout. Phelan's future is still in some doubt as he rejoined United at the same time as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solskjaer used Phelan as a sounding board and Sir Alex Ferguson's former assistant only recently signed a new three-year contract.

First-team coach Martyn Pert and goalkeeping coaches Richard Hartis and Craig Mawson also arrived at United on Solskjaer's watch and are expected to stay.
