Manchester United stance on Aurelien Tchouameni in transfer window

Manchester United are not interested in signing Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

Tchouameni, 21, joined Monaco from Bordeaux last year and is the latest midfielder to be spuriously linked with the club.

United have been in the market for a midfielder this summer but already have seven to choose from, excluding Andreas Pereira, who is set to join Flamengo on loan.

Tchouameni has been predictably linked with United as there is a consensus the club needs a younger defensive midfielder, with the 33-year-old Nemanja Matic the only specialist at the club.

United have also increased their focus on the French market in recent years, which has resulted in them being linked with several Ligue 1-based players.

The club did hold discussions with the representatives of Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga but United sources described them as discouraging as Camavinga's preference is to move to Spain.

The Camavinga interest, as well as uncertainty over Paul Pogba's future, has emboldened other representatives and clubs to link United with players of a similar profile, such as Tchouameni and Corentin Tolisso, another French midfielder United are not pursuing.

Germany midfielder Leon Goretzka has been linked with United while he is in discussions over a contract renewal with Bayern Munich. United insist the speculation with United is being driven by Goretzka's agent in an attempt to negotiate an improved deal at Bayern.
