Ole Gunnar Solskjaer convinced Aaron Wan-Bissaka to be part of his plans as the manager attempts to rebuild Manchester United into a major force again.
Wan-Bissaka’s £45m transfer from Crystal Palace to United was confirmed on Saturday, and the 21-year-old defender will be expected to hit the ground running at right-back after impressing at Selhurst Park last season.
“Ole has reassured me about his plans, what he is going to do with the team,” Wan-Bissaka said. “That is something I want to be a part of. It was the gaffer’s decision and his plan to rebuild, and to bring the team back to where it is supposed to be. I wanted to be a part of that plan.”
It is a rapid rise for a player who has only just completed his first full season in professional football. Wan-Bissaka has only played at Old Trafford once before but has positive memories of keeping a clean sheet in a goalless draw.
“That was my first time there,” he said of Premier League game last November. “I couldn’t believe that stadium! As I said in one of the interviews back then, it was one of the best ones I have played at, for its size, the pitch, the fans and the noise. The atmosphere is always loud.”
