Manchester United signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka breaks silence on transfer

Manchester United have completed the £45million signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.

Wan-Bissaka, 21, has signed a five-year contract with the option of an additional year after United agreed a transfer fee rising to £50m with Palace for the right-back.

The new United signing arrived in Manchester on Wednesday night and completed part of his medical at the club's Carrington training complex before returning there on Thursday morning to finalise his move.

Wan-Bissaka told the club website: "It's an unbelievable feeling and an honour to call myself a Manchester United player and something I know that only a small number of players have the privilege to say.

"I can’t wait to get going and integrated into the squad. I will have a short break now after the European Championships but I’m looking forward to starting training with the manager and my new team-mates on the pre-season tour."

United prioritised Wan-Bissaka over a centre half due to the need to freshen up their right-hand side, where converted fullbacks Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia, both in their 30s, played last season.

Club figures have told the MEN Wan-Bissaka was identified as the ideal right-back recruit since his dynamism is aligned with Solskjaer's demand for more energetic full-backs.

United are hopeful Wan-Bissaka will 'excite supporters' with his natural width, despite his status as a right-back. Given the demands on the modern full-back, Wan-Bissaka could mature into United's de facto right winger.

Wan-Bissaka is United's second summer addition after Daniel James and the club is expected to move onto a central midfielder next. Newcastle youngster Sean Longstaff, 21, is on their shortlist.
