Manchester United set up COVID-19 testing facility for players at Carrington

Manchester United players are set to be tested for COVID-19 on their return to Carrington next week after the club installed a testing facility in the car park.

A drive-thru testing station has been constructed at Carrington over the past couple of days in anticipation of a return to training for the first-team squad.

It is expected that players and staff will report to the facility to be tested on their arrival at Carrington, with players returning in small groups initially.

The testing will be done in line with Premier League protocols and guidelines, with discussions still taking place to finalise those procedures at the moment.

Groups of two to three players are set to return on Monday, with the majority of the club's coaching staff present, ahead of a potential resumption of the Premier League season next month.

Protocols for group training and a return to competitive action are still being discussed between players, clubs, the Premier League and government health officials, but for now small groups are returning to training.

United haven't trained at Carrington since March 13, when the season was suspended. The Premier League is continuing to push ahead with its Project Restart plans, to get the campaign back underway in June.

The Bundesliga is set to become the first major league in Europe to get back underway this weekend. Players in the top two divisions in Germany have been tested at club's training grounds, with a number of positive tests returned.
