Manchester United set to offer outcast surprise new Old Trafford deal

He may not have had too much in the way of action but Manchester United don't want to lose Matteo Darmian.

He 29-year-old is a free agent at the end of next season and clubs in Italy are sniffing around.

But United now seem likely to offer him a new four-year deal at Old Trafford.

Inter Milan are one of those keen and Darmian will be eligible to negotiate with foreign clubs when he enters the final six months of his deal in January.

But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to want the full-back to stay, Gazzetta dello Sport claim.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opens up on summer transfer plans at Man Utd

He told them before Christmas that misses his homecountry.

"I must say, I really do miss Serie A and Italy now," he told the Italian publication.

"I know that I am at one of the best clubs in the world and I am proud to be at Manchester United, but I do miss Italy. I love my country.

"Returning to play for Italy is my objective. (Italy coach) Roberto Mancini hasn't called me up yet, but I hope he will in future."

Lionel Messi back in training but won't be risked before Man Utd showdown

There's been plenty of full-back talk at United over the past 24 hours and reports suggest Solskjaer is about to drop his interest in Crystal Palace's Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The manager sees Diogo Dalot’s emergence this season and wants him to make the right-back spot his own long-term.

Dalot, 20, has slowly found his feet at Old Trafford following his £19million switch from Porto last summer.

The Sun reports that Solskjaer has now decided that he doesn’t need two young full-backs in the same position.

The manager plans to use the money he will save to strengthen in other positions.
