Manchester United set new Premier League target after Bruno Fernandes transfer breakthrough

Manchester United fans think the club can secure a top four finish in the Premier League this season after a breakthrough was made in negotiations for Bruno Fernandes.

United now expect to complete the €55million (£46.59m) signing of Fernandes following a 'significant breakthrough' in negotations.

Club sources have told the M.E.N a deal for the 25-year-old Sporting Lisbon captain is close to being finalised and they are confident of agreeing a transfer. Fernandes has not agreed personal terms yet, though.

However, if the club can finalise the transfer before Friday's transfer deadline, supporters feel Fernandes - who has 15 goals and 14 assists for Sporting this season - can help the club push for a Champions League place at the end of the season.

United are currently four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in fifth, and travel to Stamford Bridge next month.

With Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford also set to return from injury, fans feel the signing of Fernandes can improve the midfield and help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men make a late push for the top four.

Done and dusted

What a midfield

Could be massive

For sure

We're coming

They aren't ready
