Manchester United sent warning by West Ham player ahead of Premier League fixture

Manchester United have been warned by West Ham star Issa Diop that the hosts will be confident of securing another triumph over the Reds at the London Stadium.

The Hammers won this fixture 3-1 last season to pile the misery on then United boss Jose Mourinho, who lauded Diop in his post-match press conference after he'd failed to sign a centre-back in the summer.

United have failed to win in their last four visits to West Ham, though go into Sunday's contest on the back of two successive 1-0 wins, having beaten Leicester City and Astana in the past few.

Manuel Pellegrini's side have started the season promisingly, picking up eight points from five games - the same as United - and Diop is confident they can notch another three points on Sunday.

“We played a very good game against them last season,” he told the official Hammers website. “It was our first win at home last season, and a very good moment for us.

“Sunday’s going to be a different game, so we have to try to do the same thing as last year. We have to play our football and not think about Manchester United.

“We have a very good team and can beat anyone, so we are confident. In the Premier League every game is difficult, but we are ready for this game. I think if we play our football, we’re a team who can do anything.”

Former City boss Pellegrini is having a positive impact at West Ham and Diop is eager to repay his manager's faith with another big performance against United.

“Pellegrini’s coached big clubs and has a lot of experience, and I’ve learned a lot with him and improved a lot in that time," he added. I think everyone saw last year how much the team improved, so I hope we’re going to improve more again this year.

“Of course I just want to play a lot of games and I want to play well, but I also want to repay the manager’s trust on the pitch, so I always try to do my best to win each game.”
