Manchester United sent Sir Alex Ferguson warning by former player

Former Manchester United Louis Saha has warned things will 'never be the same' as the Sir Alex Ferguson glory years at Old Trafford.

Saha did, however, give his backing to current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who he believes is the right man to take the Reds forward after replacing Jose Mourinho midway through last season.

But with United now having gone six years without a Premier League title and their travails put under the microscope when arch rivals Liverpool claimed a sixth European title on Saturday night, the ex United and Everton frontman had a warning for the future.

“I fully believe they will come back, but you need to understand that in football you might copy it, but it will never be the same," he told the Mirror.

“The element of surprise is gone, because you think, ‘Well, we’re expected to do this’. It’s a job.

“United have the back up of having the fans who will always be there so it’s a case of working hard - going back to basics.

"It’s been painful the last few years, but I’m certain Ole and his staff at the club will provide a really good base.”

Saha, now 40, finished his playing career with Lazio in 2013, but scored 42 goals in 124 appearances for United in a four-year stay between 2004 and 2008 and played in last week's Treble Reunion match.
