Manchester United sent one-word message over transfer target who sampled Liverpool glory

Atletico Madrid have sent a cheeky message to Manchester United after they reportedly made an audacious attempt to sign Portuguese star Joao Felix with a record bid.

According to a report by Spanish news outlet Marca, Manchester United were 'plotting' a move for Felix, as it was claimed that the United hierarchy held discussions with Felix's representatives on Tuesday evening, as they attempt to try and bolster their attacking options. United are desperate to add to their forward line ahead of the window closing and Felix is the latest name to be linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Felix has long been linked with Liverpool, and performed well against them in the Champions League last season, drawing comparisons to Roberto Firmino - with his ability to play through the middle as an undersized 'false 9' whilst being one of the more effective chance creator's in European football - providing 0.22 expected assists per 90 minutes.

But Liverpool have reportedly been warned away by Atleti on a few occasions by Felix's price tag, after the Spanish club spent a hefty £113 million to bring him in three years ago.

And this evening, Atletico tweeted an image of the player in training, sending a message to United.

Felix was pictured in the Liverpool end during their Carabao Cup final against Chelsea in February, which lead to more speculation. The Reds could have had an opportunity to sign him this summer, but instead targeted Darwin Nunez.
