Manchester United have sent scouts to watch Lyon striker Moussa Dembele on multiple occasions, most recently on Sunday night, ahead of a January move - according to reports.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to bolster his forward options when the transfer window reopens in January with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial the only senior strikers at the club.
The Daily Mail report that Dembele has emerged as a target and United sent members of their scouting team to watch Lyon's clash against Saint-Etienne.
Much to their disappointment, the former Celtic forward was benched by Sylvinho who has rotated his attackers frequently throughout the campaign.
Dembele did make an appearance off the bench and United hope the manager's rotation policy will boost their chances of landing the Frenchman in January.
The 23-year-old is the current top scorer in Ligue 1 with six goals and has experience in the Premier League with Fulham.
Elsewhere, reports suggest United rejected the chance to sign Ajax playmaker Donny van de Beek over the summer.
The Dutchman starred for the Eredivisie side that reached the semi-finals of the Champions League last season as well as securing the league title.
He was heavily linked with a summer transfer, with Real Madrid keen, but remained at Ajax.
The Mirror suggest Solskjaer was offered the chance to sign the midfielder for just £35million during the summer but opted against it.
Real Madrid now lead the race to sign him again, with reports suggesting his fee could reach the £100m mark.
