Manchester United sell-on clauses for Romelu Lukaku and Wilfried Zaha could finance signings

Manchester United could raise funds for any more reinforcements this summer from sell-on clauses for Romelu Lukaku and Wilfried Zaha.

Lukaku, 28, is understood to be open to leaving Inter Milan after Chelsea registered their interest in re-signing the striker they signed from Anderlecht 10 years ago.

Inter are holding out for between €120million (£102.1m) and €130m for Lukaku and, if a deal is agreed, United would be due a small windfall of at least £5m for a player they sold in 2019.

Lukaku was initially keen to stay at Italian champions Inter but, after Chelsea turned their attention to the Belgian from Erling Haaland, Lukaku had a change of heart and is eager to rejoin the Champions League winners.

Chelsea bought Lukaku when he was 18 in 2011 and sold him to Everton for £28m in 2014. Chelsea tried to re-sign the Belgium international in 2017 but Lukaku opted to move to United for £75m and stayed at the club for two years before joining Inter for £73m.

Zaha is believed to be considering his future at Crystal Palace again and United would be entitled to 25% of any transfer fee agreed for the winger.

United sold Zaha, 28, back to Palace in 2015 for an overall fee of £6m and he has repeatedly attempted to leave the London club. Zaha's contract runs until 2023.

Despite a bloated squad, United have not made a significant sale this summer, with the window open for just under four more weeks.

United are working on a budget this year and have placed an emphasis on outgoings following the signings of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.
