Scott McTominay admitted watching Liverpool win the Champions League was tough — but singled out Andy Robertson for praise.
The Manchester United star said that his Scotland teammate should be an inspiration, as the pair join up with the national team ahead of Euro 2020 qualifiers against Cyprus and Belgium in the next week.
Robertson was named in the PFA Team of the Year thanks to his performances for Liverpool and his fellow countryman McTominay couldn't help but be impressed by the left-back's showing in Madrid against Tottenham.
“I’m a Man United man through and through so I can’t lie it wasn’t easy, it was a tough watch,” McTominay told the Herald.
“But it was still good to see a fellow Scotsman on the pitch and beautiful to see what he’s gone through from 2012 to now.
“It’s amazing for him and we’re relishing getting him back and hopefully kicking on in a Scotland jersey.
“If that’s not inspiration for the whole team right there I don’t know what is.
“He’s done incredibly well and that’s my aim - to be replicating something like that winning big trophies and hopefully playing in major tournaments in the future with Scotland.”
McTominay also spoke about former United boss , who gave the 22-year-old his United debut in the 2017/18 season. The midfielder has since thrived under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, finishing the season strongly despite United's slump in form which cost them a Champions League place.
“The way he looked after me was incredible," he added. "It’s no coincidence he likes players who want to do everything for the manager and that’s the type of boy I am.
