Manchester United's Scott McTominay opens up on Ralf Rangnick demand after Newcastle draw

Scott McTominay has revealed Ralf Rangnick was frustrated at Manchester United's wastefulness in possession against Newcastle.

United drew 1-1 away at Newcastle on Monday but they responded to that display with a 3-1 win over Burnley on Thursday night.

Scott McTominay opened the scoring on the seventh-minute mark - that was the Reds' first league goal in the first 15 minutes of a Premier League game all season - and an own goal from Ben Mee combined with Cristiano Ronaldo's goal made it three.

Aaron Lennon rolled back the years to make the game 3-1 before the break, however, Burnley couldn't muster another.

United secured the three points to end the year on a high and McTominay reflected on a tumultuous week at the club.

"Probably first-half as a team [best display under Rangnick]," McTominay admitted to Amazon Prime.

"We were a bit flat second-half for whatever reason. We need to get that for a full 90 minutes which we haven't really had this year. But we are learning and adapting. The game against Newcastle was difficult and we have to bounce back from that.

"The manager said we set the record for the most amount of turnovers in the league. We had to keep the ball better. Goals help energy. If we bang in two or three at Newcastle it gives the whole team energy. It is so important.

"Now is the time we really start stepping up and doing much, much better.

"The manager is so demanding and we play for Man Utd, it is what we have to do."
