Manchester United's remaining Premier League fixtures compared with Manchester City

Manchester City returned to winning ways on Wednesday night as they beat Aston Villa 2-1 from behind.

John McGinn put Villa ahead in the first minute but goals from Phil Foden and Rodri completed the turnaround before half time and they held onto their lead despite a red card for John Stones.

It was a blow to Manchester United's fading hopes of catching City. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men were not involved in midweek action, whilst City were playing as a result of the Carabao Cup final against Tottenham on Sunday.

Victory at Leeds United on Sunday will move United back to within eight points, but as the games count down their hopes of an unlikely title win grow smaller.

With just over a month of the regular season remaining, here's a look at how both teams' fixtures compare against one another.

Manchester City fixtures - 77 points

May 1: Crystal Palace (A)

May 8: Chelsea (H)

May 12: Newcastle (A)

May 15: Brighton (A)

May 23: Everton (H)

Manchester United fixtures - 66 points

Apr 24: Leeds (A)

May 1: Liverpool (H)

May 8: Aston Villa (A)

May 11: Leicester (H)

May 15: Fulham (H)

May 23: Wolves (A)

Verdict

With only a month of the season to play, United's chances of catching City are looking very slim.

Pep Guardiola's side need eight points from their last five matches to lift the Premier League title, with Manchester United having played one game fewer.

In terms of the fixtures themselves, both have two of the top eight left to play. United's combination of Liverpool and Leicester is probably the tougher of the two, though Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea thwarted City in the FA Cup semi-final last weekend.
