Manchester United's plans for defender Max Taylor revealed

MK Dons have opted against loaning Manchester United defender Max Taylor for the 2020/21 season.

United defender Taylor had been on trial with the League One side as he looked to arrange a temporary move for next season and make his breakthrough into senior football.

The 20-year-old defender was on the substitutes' bench for United in their Europa League defeat against Astana last November, just 14 months after he had been diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Taylor joined Stalybridge Celtic on-loan in the January transfer window but is now attracting plenty of Football League interest after he regained his match fitness.

MEN Sport understands Taylor is likely to go on another trial with a League One club next week with the player 'feeling much stronger' than he did last season.

Taylor utilised the lockdown months to improve on his personal fitness and partnered up with a personal trainer in order to improve muscle growth ahead of his first proper season in men's football.

The United youngster won't be joining up with MK Dons, but their assistant manager Luke Williams anticipates a domestic rival will take the opportunity.

"Yes, Max was with us," Williams confirmed. "He trained and played a little bit but the qualities he has, we've either got those covered in the group already or it's the type of qualities we're maybe not pinpointing as much.

"Max is a very good player, we'll probably be playing against him in the coming weeks but no, he won't be with us for this campaign."
