Manchester United's Paul Pogba posts powerful anti-racism message

Manchester United star Paul Pogba has taken to social media to hit back at racism trolls with a powerful message.

Both Pogba and his teammate Marcus Rashford have been subject to foul racist abuse in recent days, with United quick to condemn the behaviour of a minority of fans.

he was "lost for words" when asked about the Pogba abuse and it was "crazy" when more vile comments appeared to target Rashford.

of Pogba by displaying a flag that read 'United against racism', while they chanted 'there's only one Paul Pogba' before kick off and during the game, with the player responding by applauding the Stretford End at Old Trafford.

And posting on Instagram, Pogba has reiterated his powerful stance.

He said: "My ancestors and my parents suffered for my generation to be free today, to work, to take the bus, to play football. Racist insults are ignorance and can only make me stronger and motivate me to fight for the next generation."

Pogba posted the words alongside a picture of himself holding his baby son, with artwork which depicted American race campaigner Martin Luther King in the background.

Pogba then commented further via his Instagram story.

"It took me a few days to comment on the racial abuse directed at me," he said.

"When I hold my son against the heroes of my wall, past and future come together. While seeing the amazing achievements of the past towards equality and freedom I hope my son's generation will achieve so much more on the road to racial peace.

"I pray my son will not grow up in a world of 'us' against 'them', but instead in a world where everyone can express and be him or herself without confrontation.

"I pray for those affected by racism to be strong. I ask God to forgive the perpetrators and give me the tolerance and understanding towards those poor souls.

"For all of us who wake up every day to fight our battles and serve Him, may we be free, may we be healthy, may we be strong, may we never lose faith.

"It is such an old trick to try and weaken somebody by attacking his/her skin colour, gender or belief system. It makes me laugh, so ridiculous it is. Together we'll always be stronger.

"To all supporters, team mates and friends who sent me so many beautiful messages from my many countries, my deepest merci, I read them all."
