Antonio Conte is expected to become the next Tottenham manager following the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo on Monday.
The Portuguese was only handed the job in the summer, but less than four months later he finds himself unemployed following a run of dismal displays at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Now football.london understands that Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy are in advanced talks to finally get in Antonio Conte - who was interviewed for the job before Espirito Santo - and there is a growing confidence that the deal could be sealed as early as Monday evening, if not Tuesday.
The news comes after Manchester United decided against moving for the Italian.
Pressure piled on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the Red Devils' 5-0 drubbing at home to Liverpool less than two weeks ago, but United's hierarchy opted against sacking the Norwegian despite rumours that Conte was interested in taking over the job.
However, as per the MEN, source close to Conte say Spurs and United have ‘different ideas’ regarding their managerial situation.
The report adds that Conte was open to replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but had reservations over the structure of the club.
The Italian would've wanted autonomy on signings and was not prepared to tolerate having ‘marketing’ players foisted onto him.
Pressure on Solskjaer has eased a touch after United followed up the disappointing loss to Liverpool with a big win over Spurs in what was ironically Espirito Santo's final game as Tottenham head coach, but there is still concern amongst the fan base that he isn't the right man to take them forward.
