Manchester United's Marcus Rashford sends message on racist abuse in Hungary vs England game

Marcus Rashford has sent a message of support to his England teammates after they were reportedly subjected to racist abuse in the World Cup qualifying win against Hungary.

Raheem Sterling was pelted by projectiles after opening the scoring for England, while other players were also hit by objects thrown from the home crowd including Manchester United's Luke Shaw. The England team were loudly booed when taking the knee before the game.

ITV reported that some of the abuse aimed at Sterling — as well as substitute Jude Bellingham — was of a racist nature, and the Football Association issued a statement after the game.

They said: "It is extremely disappointing to hear reports of discriminatory actions towards some of our England players. We will be asking FIFA to investigate the matter.

"We continue to support the players and staff in our collective determination to highlight and tackle discrimination in all its forms."

Quoting the statement, Rashford posted: "My brothers. Every single one of them. Proud of you boys."

He accompanied the post with a number of clapping emojis of different shades.

United teammate Harry Maguire, who scored in the 4-0 win, said after the game: "I've spoke to a few of the boys in the changing room and no-one heard it. Obviously we might be fully focussed and in the zone.

"If it is true, you've [reporters] been in the stands, it's extremely disappointing and I hope it can be punished."
