Manchester United's Marcus Rashford claims Atalanta are perfect opponents after Leicester defeat

Marcus Rashford believes Atalanta could be the 'perfect' opponents for Manchester United on Wednesday night.

United won their first game of the new Champions League campaign against Villarreal in late September thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo's stoppage-time goal, however, that performance was not convincing and United will have to play better against Atalanta.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are currently struggling for form, having suffered a 4-2 defeat away to Leicester in the Premier League upon their return from the international break and that awful result means the pressure is now building on Solskjaer.

Rashford has explained that he thinks Atalanta could be the perfect test for United after their Leicester defeat, though.

"I think they’ve [Atalanta] been a good team now for a few years now, a few seasons," Rashford told United's in-house media.

"They’re consistent and what they are is very, very aggressive. I feel like Atalanta could play well in the Premier League because they’re so aggressive and on the front foot. When they’re defending and when they’re attacking, they all go, they attack with intent to score.

"That’s why I say, after a result like Leicester, a team like Atalanta is perfect for us to play against because they’re going to push us.

"And push us and push us. If we want to win that game, we’re going to have to be at our best. We’re going to have to be willing to run as much as they run and fight as much as they fight, and then hopefully our quality will shine through.”

Rashford made his full return from injury at the King Power Stadium, but his goal from off the bench couldn't salvage a point.

After getting almost 30 minutes under his belt in that match, Rashford is in contention to start against Atalanta on Wednesday.
